Overview of case study

The objective of this moving and handling project was to give the learner a greater understanding of the personal risks involved when handling patients.

Moving & Handling
Step 1

What was the objective?

The initial objective of this moving and handling project was to give the learner (who could be recruitment candidates / new starters or existing staff) greater understanding of the personal risks involved when handling patients. At a strategic level, it was also a discovery exercise to see how education could be delivered remotely to a variety of cohorts at one time. The final aim of the project was to see if time in the classroom could be reduced, allowing more time to enhance the practical skills and knowledge involved in moving and handling.

Step 2

What solution did we offer?

Nice Media employed a simple but effective strategy, designed to take advantage of the different layers of communication available with video production – in order to help emphasise the key learning points and in order to appeal to audiences with different preferences around how to take in information. Also, to make the resource more accessible to remote learners. The video combines professionally shot footage with cutting edge motion graphics and voice-over, making it an extremely effective piece of media that can be used again and again.

Step 3

What was the outcome?

The final output was one core training video of 3 minutes in length, and a 30 second promo which is intended to introduce the learners to the course. This course will be accessed by the 500-600 new starters that SCAS take on each year. It will also be accessed by any staff who have been on leave and are returning to work, or other staff who are in need of refresher training for other reasons. In addition, the content is going to be made available via social media and free to access for other ambulance service staff and paramedics across the UK – potentially reaching thousands of staff.
